sixmilebridge limerick to ?
The Woodfield hotel in Limerick was ok we had a pleasant stay but nice hotel rooms make for long lies and dalliance, by the time we loaded up checked out and got back to the point i finished cycling yesterday it was 10:36am, when i started cycling from the Power Whiskey Distillery. Then I had 17km to cycle just to get back to the Woodfield hotel , i passed this 40 minutes later , its shit cycling for 40 mins to pass where you woke !
The cycle through Limerick wasn’t the best, i hate cycling in any city especially ones i don’t know , the traffic was busy i ended up walking the bike big sections of the city centre trying to find my cycle route out , in the end i was look for the r510 leading to the N21 but at one stage had to cycle along a motorway hard shoulder for 2 km
I took the first turn off and used google maps to find a road back to where iIhad planned to meet Sheila at a place called Adare not too far from Limerick we thought , turns out it was 27miles when i stopped the bike at the bongo for lunch.

We had lunch in Adare at a place called Auntie Lena`s, its a lovely wee town and our lunch was nice. By the time we sent postcards home and had lunch (with a now traditional lunch time Guiness ) it was 2pm , we agreed to meet further up the road but the meeting town although on the map wasn’t at the road , so Sheila drove back to speak with me and we changed the next stop for a place called Abbeyfeale but this was just a quick chat stop, to make plans for the end of the days cycling , i reckoned i could get to a place called Farranfore which is 15km outside our intended Killarney ! for our next meet at least and then make a plan from then , its hard to know at that time of day how long it will take to cycle 30mile !
The weather was good, i was tired and sore but still averaging 12-15 MPH then bosch a road closure ! the road between a place called castle island to Farranfore was totally closed , I spoke with the man at the road end and he said i had to take a 11mile detour ! i said to him "no danger I’m going through" , he said in a thick irish brogue "suit yer feckin sel, I don’t give a shit The roads totally closed try if you like". Which i did, and after i broke through two barriers and carried the bike over a few obstacles shoving it through a gap in a few fences i beat the detour!
It was then just a short pleasant cycle in the sun on quiet country roads past Kerry airport ( perhaps the smallest commercial airport I’ve seen ) and i was at our meeting point in Farranfore , it was 17:25 i had decided i would call it a day by then, its my holidays not an endurance event for both of us ,
So Sheila had checked out the campsite a place called Flesk campsite in Killarney , it was perfect the views over the mountains was great, the facilities on site were good .We unpacked got organised and had showers and beers , then a very pleasant walk into town , the houses and hotels in Killarney are huge and expensive looking , i cannot help but notice how big all the houses in Southern Ireland are, every second house is a mansion. And thats from the very north to here in the deep south , there’s zero poverty and absolutely gorgeous big houses , and Killarney is not Aviemore or Chamonix. It’s more like an american or canadian mountain resort with the quality of the hotels and houses.
Our first stop was Killarney Brewing Company, where we ordered the wood fired pizza and beer deal. Pizza and beer 16 euros , which they are marketing as a deal but a 12”pizza and a pint is not £16 at home ,it was very tasty though.
The main town centre was just over the road and we went to 3-4 bars. The whole place was mega busy with most of the bars having a queue to get in , we went to O’Connors, O'Donoghues and The Laurels, which are supposed to be some of the more famous bars in Killarney , but to be fair in the town all the bars were good and busy, loads of live music , the streets were good also, lots of buskers. I ended up buying a Baileys whisky cone en route to the next bar where there was a Scottish busker wearing a trump style heid singing about him . We exchanged a bit of friendly scottish banter which ended in me being called Mr mayagi, due to my whiskers , taxi back to camp another cracking night out . tomorrow will be Day 7 of the trip.
